• ResCompare can now compare, update, difference, and patch data forks. This means you can use it to create a patch for a Power Macintosh application, or any other Macintosh document. The data fork appears as an extra resource in the resource list.
• ResCompare is now a fat application. It will run at native speed on the Power Macintosh. Patches generated by ResCompare are still 68K-only, for compatibility with older Macintoshes.
• ResCompare now requires System 7 or later, and the Thread Manager. Patches generated by ResCompare will run on any system version.
• ResCompare can now generate patches that are localized for another language. In addition to US English, ResCompare includes patches translated to the following languages.

Patch Changes
• Patches have a new file format. See the “Patch File Format” document for details. This means you can’t use this version of ResCompare to append to your existing patches—you’ll have to completely recreate them.
• Some new options give you more control over what the patch does with your files. You can choose whether a patch renames the original file, deletes it, moves it to the Trash, or leaves it alone. The patched file can replace the original file, be exchanged with the original file, or be saved using a new name you supply.
• All patching work is done in a safe manner to ensure that if an error occurs (like running out of disk space) the original file will be undamaged. In addition, the patch now sets the created and modified dates of the patched file to match those of the final update file.
• The patch’s error alerts are now less scary, and its progress display is similar to the one used by the Finder.
Other Changes
• ResCompare now makes most allocations from temporary memory. You shouldn’t have to increase ResCompare’s memory partition for large resource files.

Bugs Fixed
• Fixed erroneous patch warning on very large volumes.
• The dreaded “too many resources” alert is no more.
• The patch no longer clears the “Printer Driver is MultiFinder Compatible” resource file bit.
